Kaiser’s Bridge, Corfu

Kaiser’s Bridge, located in the picturesque Achilleion area just 2 kilometers from Benitses, is a historical landmark named after the German Emperor Wilhelm II. He acquired the nearby Achilleion Palace following the death of Empress Sisi of Austria. This remarkable bridge was constructed with innovative techniques to provide Kaiser Wilhelm II with direct access to the sea and to offer him unparalleled privacy and breathtaking views.

Designed to appear as if it were floating on the water, the bridge was a marvel of its time, reflecting the Emperor’s desire for an exclusive retreat. However, the bridge was later dismantled, leaving behind only remnants. Today, the site features a section of the national road, which now serves as a passage for travelers heading to South Corfu.

Despite its partial dismantling, Kaiser’s Bridge remains a fascinating historical feature. Visitors traveling south through Corfu can still admire the remaining structure and imagine its former grandeur, making it a noteworthy stop for those interested in the island’s intriguing past.
